Models Gather For Higher Purpose

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Models are as plentiful as sand on South Beach, but one group of fashion's finest is gathering for a higher purpose.

Models for Christ was founded in New York in 1984 and has since expanded to Miami Beach and 18 other major fashion centers, from Milan to Tokyo.

Worldwide, hundreds of people participate in the non-denominational spiritual group.

In South Florida, models and others in the fashion industry gather in the simple worship space for Calvary Chapel Miami Beach.

They sing church songs, read from bright blue paperback Bibles and share their struggles of remaining Christian in the fashion business.

Jeremiah Johnson is the former model who leads the Miami Beach chapter.

He says the fashion industry leads many away from God, but that it doesn't have to.
