Roles Of The Wedding Party

In a wedding party, the bride and the groom is definitely the center attraction. They are considered to be the stars of the occasion. But there are definitely a lot of important supporting roles to consider in making the wedding event a successful one. It is important therefore, for the people who will take part in this occasion to know the roles and responsibility that they are expected to fulfill.

First and foremost is the maid of honor or the matron of honor. It is usually that of the bride’s sister or best friend who takes this role. Many people may not know it, but the maid of honor has an important role in the planning process. She takes a part in assisting the bride with the details, from making the wedding favors, to shopping, to assisting the bridesmaids on the wedding day, up to serving as a witness on the certificate of marriage. The bridesmaids, on the other hand, have the task of helping with the pre-wedding activities. The number bridesmaids in a wedding has no limit. But traditionally, it is not more than eight or twelve.

The Best Man is usually the brother or the best friend of the groom; or any close male relative of the groom. He usually has the task of giving moral support to the groom, assisting the groom with clothing, and witnessing the marriage certificate.

The ushers, on the other hand, have an important role as well in getting the wedding organized. They have the responsibility to take charge of assisting the guests in the seating, organizing the bridesmaids and ensuring the placement of the wedding gifts, among others.

The flower girls are usually at the age of between 4 to 8 years old. The couple must not choose a flower girl that is younger than 4 years old because it would be difficult for them to be instructed on what they are supposed to do. The flower girls are responsible for scattering the rose petals as the bride walks down the aisle, or they may just carry a bouquet.

If there is a flower girl, the ring bearer should be someone who is about the same age as the flower girl in order to be able to be given proper instructions in carrying the rings or the pillow. The ring bearer may either walk down the aisle along with the flower girl at his side. Or, he may walk alone, preceding the bride.

The presence of a trainbearer may or may not be necessary. But their existence will add an additional touch to the wedding ceremony. The trainbearer may either be a boy or a girl, who has the task of following the bride down the aisle carrying the bride’s gown train.

These are the important people, besides the bride and the groom, who will play a vital part in making the wedding ceremony be a successful event. It is therefore important for the couple to select the right people whom they know can be relied and trusted so that they will not encounter any problems in the process of planning for their wedding day.
